Another Celtic youngster is set to leave the club
Celtic look set to lose another young player in the transfer window, with English-side Blackburn Rovers reportedly after 19-year-old .
The Scottish Sun and Football League World have both reported in recent days Blackburn’s interest in the Celtic youngster, with a deal sounding more likely this coming week.
McBride is a 19-year-old Falkirk-born striker who has been with Celtic since 2018 when he joined the club’s Under-18 squad from Falkirk FC’s Under-17’s. Yet to break into the first team, he spent last season on loan with Scottish League Two side Stenhousemuir FC.
While with Stenny, he made 16 appearances with one goal and one assist to his name. He’s also made three caps with Scotland’s Under-17’s, having debuted with them in 2017.
After losing Danny Graham, Rovers are clearly looking to bolster the position. While McBride is yet unproven, he could make a good choice behind the proven Adam Armstrong (who netted 16 times for the side last season) and Sam Gallagher, especially as a potential youth project for the side.
Celtic have been keen on keeping McBride, having fended off interest previously from other squads, but there’s always a chance he could move for the right price. As seen after Sunday’s tough win against Dundee, the Hoops could use all the help they can find upfront, and losing a young striker prospect could affect the squad if any other forwards are sold on the window.
While it’s unlikely that Lennon would let go of a player of such magnitude at this time, new rumors seem to be popping up weekly regarding Odsonne Edouard‘s potential sale with Aston Villa, Leicester City, and Crystal Palace all being recent clubs mentioned.
