Celtic legend warns Peter Lawwell about transfer mistake
The Celtic legend warned Peter Lawwell against making the transfer mistake, especially with 10-in-a-row on the line this season.
The sad reality of the situation is that Celtic are a selling club these days. With modern football more and more money oriented, the Scottish champions cannot compete with those around Europe when it comes to finances despite the fact that they are one of the biggest clubs globally. Thus, very often we are forced into selling some of our best players.
There is a time and place for everything though. And while rumours continue to persist surrounding Odsonne Edouard’s Parkhead future, the club should not even think about letting the Frenchman go for a second.
And that is not just our view but also that of Celtic legend, Davie Provan. In his column in The Scottish Sun, Provan wrote:
"“You can bet Peter Lawwell isn’t short of offers for Odsonne Edouard at the moment.“In any other season, the Celt’s chief would have an auction going for the player. Not now.“If Lawwell punted the striker, he’d need a change of identity and digs on St Kilda.”"
Edouard is clearly one of the best players, if not the best, that Celtic have right now. And letting him go ahead of such an important season would be a mistake of epic proportions.
The Hoops have struggled to find the back of the net already this season as they have failed to break down teams that sit deep against them. And letting go of Edouard would make that task exponentially harder.
Celtic continue to be linked with strikers in the transfer window though with Lennon having admitted that he is looking for another one despite having four at his disposal already. Thus, many fans are afraid that this could spell the end for Edouard with many Premier League sides reportedly interest.
This is one mistake that Lawwell must avoid at all costs though. Edouard might have a price but history is priceless.
