Celtic have been linked with a loan move for the £25 million Premier League left-back who struggled for game time last season.

Left-back is a position of concern for Neil Lennon. Boli Bolingoli has pretty much finished his Hoops career with his own hands with his secret trip to Spain earlier in the season, that ended up postponing two of the games and causing a lot of controversy around Parkhead. So do not expect to see him in a Celtic shirt ever again.

Greg Taylor on the other hand is just not convincing enough to be a regular starter for a club that is going for 10IAR. Yes, there are phases when it looks like there is a player in him. But most of the time, he is just mediocre and sometimes even a liability. Thus, it would be a mistake if the club do not go out and recruit another left-back in this transfer window.

Thankfully, they could get a pretty good one in the form of Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon. The Englishman has not gotten the opportunities he would like since joining Jose Mourinho’s side last summer for an eye-watering £25 million. It is safe to say he has not justified that price yet, making just 12 appearances and scoring just once.

While he is capable of playing multiple positions, left-back is certainly one of them. And he could be particularly effective if played in the left wing-back role. That is where Celtic come in.

Celtic have a proven track record of developing youngsters and he would surely get a lot of chances at Parkhead. Thus, it might not be the worst idea for Spurs to send him on a loan spell to the Scottish champions. And that looks to be exactly what the Hoops are hoping as well, with the Daily Record reporting that the club are interesting in bringing him in for a season-long loan.

Now there is no doubt that Sessegnon would be a terrific signing and would probably tear up the Scottish league. There are conflicting reports though, with The Athletic claiming that Jose Mourinho is open to giving him a run in the first-team next season.
