Major twist in Tom Rogic’s Celtic transfer exit to Qatar
Tom Rogic looked set to leave Celtic for an unnamed Qatari side but there seems to be another twist in the transfer tale.
News broke out last night that Tom Rogic was set to leave Celtic after an unnamed Qatari side had made an offer in the range of £4 million. The Australian has enjoyed seven trophy-laden seasons at Parkhead but has fallen out of Neil Lennon’s first-team plans due to combination of continuous injury problems as well as the emergence of players like Ryan Christie and Olivier Ntcham.
For the last few years, he has not been as big part of the team as he used to. Even then, he has provided us with some incredible moments over the years and it would have been great if he could have been part of 10IAR season. If this is his decision though, we can only wish him the best of luck. And although it will not be an easy goodbye to say the least, it feels like this might be the right time to part ways.
A move to Qatar might not be as set in stone though as we might have first believed. As reported by the Daily Mail, he could be used as part of a deal to bring Shane Duffy to Celtic, as Brighton are interested in the Australian:
"However, the Australian international could still be used as a makeweight in Celtic’s bid to land Irish international defender Shane Duffy from Brighton.Quoted £2m to loan the no-nonsense central defender on loan, the Scottish champions are now in a two-way fight with West Ham for his services."
It is easy to make a case for both types of deals though. The Qatar deal provides Celtic with some decent amount of transfer money to spend on the rest of the squad. On the other hand, if this deal is a straight swap between Duffy and Rogic, with both leaving on season-long loans then it does make a lot of sense.
Celtic get Duffy for the rest of the season while Rogic gets a chance to rediscover his form and hopefully increase his value by showcasing his talents in the Premier League. Lets see though, which of the deals ends up happening.
