Celtic are reportedly ready to make a €5 million bid for the Ghana international but the interest is more confusing than exciting.

One of the most confusing things about Celtic’s transfer policy is that they seem keen to spend money but not in positions of immediate need. For example, the £5 million arrival of Albian Ajeti could have easily been a season-long loan with the club putting in that money in positions that are in more urgent need of arrivals.

To be very honest, all of us know that Odsonne Edouard is going to remain the first choice striker next season and deservedly so. And it is arguable that if he can keep things together, Leigh Griffiths is a better striker than both Patryk Klimala and Albian Ajeti. Thus, it is truly confusing that Celtic have been linked with another striker in the from of Ghana international, Caleb Ekuban.

Ekuban currently plays for Trabzonspor but has not been prolific for them by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, he only has 17 goals for them in 64 appearances. His stint at Leeds United before that was even worse, when he scored just twice in 21 appearances. Thus, one has to question why Celtic are interested in him.

And it is not that he is a cheap option. As reported by Turkish outlet Fanatik, Celtic made a €5 million bid for the striker but it was rejected by Trabzonspor. And we can only hope that the Hoops don’t decide to go in with a second bid.

Fans will be afraid though that Celtic are preparing for the departure of Odsonne Edouard as long as they continue to be linked with strikers in the transfer window. They have reportedly been chasing Ivan Toney for months and now this interest in Ekuban.

We do not need to tell you why selling Edouard ahead of 10IAR season would be a huge mistake and one that the fans will not forgive the board for anytime soon. Do the right thing and keep hold of French Eddy for one more season. No matter what the offer is. History is priceless.
