Celtic are reportedly pursuing another player after reports have had the player linked to the club since last summer.

According to the Scottish Sun Sport, Celtic have been scouting former transfer target David Turnbull. Famously, Turnbull looked to have all but completed a switch to Parkhead last summer; only for the deal to be scuppered at the eleventh hour due to freak knee cartilage concerns during his medical.

Inevitably, the 21-year-old was forced to spend time on the side-lines in order to physically recover and prevent any possibility of any repeat injury in the future. Credit must go to the player alongside his employers Motherwell, as the talented play maker has recaptured his form since the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign. In which this can be partly attributed to the all-round cautious nature of his rehabilitation phase.

Hoops manager Neil Lennon reportedly assigned coach Gavin Strachan to assess the Scotland under-21 international, as he produced a domineering performance in centre-midfield in a goalless draw for the Steelmen away to Hibernian. Seemingly tailor made to step into the squad at Celtic Park, there is no doubt Turnbull would add a touch of class to the Hoops midfield.

Statistically, Turnbull was astounding in his breakthrough season as he shot to prominence in Scottish football. 15 goals and 6 assists in 30 SPFL games prompted initial interest from the Celts, with his one in two goal ratio from the middle of the park coming as almost unprecedented for then 19-year-old youngster.

Widely, the consensus amongst the Celtic support with regards to the prospective acquisition of the Fir Park star has been positively received. Despite this, there is growing anxiety that this particular pursuit could mean the outgoing of Olivier Ntcham, who has been linked with moves to several English top-flight sides including Everton, West Ham and Southampton according to Glasgow Live.

Ideally, bringing in the Wishaw-born player to complement the Celtic midfield would be an astute development at the Glasgow club. Hopefully, David Turnbull will don the Green and White Hoops sooner rather than later.
