Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish has just provided the perfect solution to the mess that has been created by leftback Boli Bolingoli.

In case you haven’t heard yet, Celtic leftback Boli Bolingoli secretly left the country for Spain and returned without quarantining so he could play against Kilmarnock last weekend. That little trip has left a black eye on the club, as well as the league as whole.

This came on the heels of eight Aberdeen players being caught out on the town and then two of them subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. Both of these transgressions has led to player punishments, as well as talks of each club being fined, or worse.

However, Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish has some strong thoughts on what should happen to the clubs and the players. To be quite frank, his ideas seem to be the most level-headed we have heard so far.

Here is what Dlaglish had to say regarding Bolingoli’s situation and how it could be handled in his Sunday Post column:

"“I’m all for punishing players when they step out of line. Absolutely.“The individual clubs and the authorities can decide an appropriate course of action.“But I’m not in favour of deducting points or, as has been suggested, awarding the opposition in the affected games a 3-0 win.“Starting to mess around with points is not the way ahead.”"

The idea of docking points has been the loudest coming from the Ibrox camp. Of course that would be their solution. When they drop points at Livingston it becomes quite clear the only club to stop the Celtic 10IAR will be Celtic. However, the idea of just awarding the opposing clubs three points is even more ludicrous as that squad wouldn’t have earned those points and it would create an odd dichotomy in the table.

Dalglish also mentioned how Celtic couldn’t have known about Bolingoli’s trip and those suggesting they did is just senseless:

"“I’ve also heard some people suggest that Celtic must have known that Bolingoli had left the country and nipped over to Spain overnight.“I don’t believe that for a minute.“They were clearly oblivious to the situation. Had they known, they would never have jeopardised the health and safety of their own staff, and that of Kilmarnock.”"

Celtic have not just been one of the most vocal clubs when it comes to fighting the pandemic, but they have been a leader as far as clubs should handle business and take care of their people. Celtic would never have jeopardised player and staff safety in order to have Bolingoili take the pitch for just a few minutes.

At the end of the day, Dalglish is correct, the club and governing bodies must punish the player. Even a fine to the clubs could be seen as fair. However, points should never be messed with for an issue that was out of the club’s hands to be very honest. It makes no sense.
