Ex-Rangers star takes outrageous swipe at new Celtic signing
By StevieMac
Here we go again! The Rangers PR machine makes outrageous claims via an ex Ibrox player claiming a new Celtic player won’t be good enough.
Charlie Adam played 61 games for the Rangers in his time at the club during his six seasons at Ibrox. He’s out of contract having left Reading after missing the last few games of the Sky Bet Championship season after he had tested positive for the coronavirus. He’ll probably be glad of the media attention to help flag that he is club-less. Now, he has some baseless claims about new Celtic striker – Albian Ajeti.
Adam has been talking to PLZ Soccer as reported by the Daily Record and taking simple pot shots at Celtic’s new £5 million man.
Adam reflected on the signing of Ajeti and raised his concerns that the Swiss international may not be up to playing in Scotland. As you’d expect the thoughts are sketchy and by no means backed by a huge range of facts or evidence. The full ex-player standard pundit phrases came into play straight away as Adam laid out his rationale:
"“It’s tougher coming to Scotland.“Wait until you go to play Livingston, wait until you go to play Hamilton on the astroturf. That’ll open the lad’s eyes up.“£5million is a lot of investment for Celtic, he’s a young player.”"
That’s the Adams logic right there. In his mind it’s enough. Backing all those thoughts up further Adam revealed his scouting and assessment approach:
"“Have I seen enough of him? I’ve heard through the grapevine that he’s not at the level that everybody thinks he is.”"
As always it’s another piece of waffle, a sound bite without any substance. Based on what Adam has heard from someone else.
Ajeti is likely to be already fired up for his Celtic debut, if he has heard of Adam or sees his words it’ll no doubt motivate the Swiss international further.
Celtic fans are excited by the Ajeti signing, looking forward to see him play and seeing what he will bring to the club. The fact that he’s signed on a permanent four-year deal rather than a loan as first envisaged makes it even better. In fact, after all the bluster, Adam does an about turn on Ajeti and reflects:
"“For that outlay they must like the lad, and like I say if he does well then he’ll be worth £15-20 million in the next 18 months.”"
It’s unlikely Adam was fed that view by any Rangers PR team! Maybe it’s what Adam means when he questions Ajeti’s level, the player can go onward from Celtic in the future.
