Celtic told how much they must pay for Shane Duffy
By Kade Kistner
Celtic are rumoured to be pursuing Brighton defender Shane Duffy and now the Hoops know how much they will need to pay for his services.
Celtic need to bring in an additional defender ahead of the transfer window closure in October. Credit to the club for already bringing in a quality goalkeeper in Vasilis Barkas, as well as a proven striker in Albian Ajeti.
However, the club needs more and they need it on the backline. This is where the rumours of Shane Duffy begin to come into play. These rumours have been gaining steam over the course of the last week and there is some reason to believe they have some credence.
Duffy is currently at Brighton without a defined role and is seen as excess to the squad, currently. The Hoops have spent some big money on Barkas and Ajeti already (about £10 million), so a loan would make sense in order to bring in another defender. None of that even mentions that Duffy’s boyhood club is in fact Celtic.
Now, the Hoops have been reportedly given a price tag for the Irish defender from Brighton if the club does indeed wish to bring him in on loan. According to the Daily Record it will cost the Hoops a reported £2 million loan fee to bring in the player.
That is a pretty steep price to pay for a single season from a player. However, there is no denying that the player would not only fit well into the club and formation but would also personally love to play at Parkhead. While the club may be serious about bringing in quality talent in order to secure the 10IAR, that price tag seems to be a bit too steep even for the Hoops.
Perhaps that is just the starting price and the clubs can widdle that down even further.
