As if things could not get worse, Celtic has received more bad news from the Boli Bolingoli incident that could have some consequences.

Boli Bolingoli’s Spanish adventure has left Celtic with a black eye unlike anything the club has seen in quite some time. It is an embarrassment that is being shown on the world football stage. As such, the Hoops are in the process of offloading the leftback.

However, that is not where the issue ends. Despite the club punishing the player, the SPFL and SFA have now implemented new rules that will allow both the club and player to be punished for breaking COVID-19 protocols according to STV. In this particular incident, this does seem unfair as there is not much Celtic could have possibly done.

Celtic, thanks to the Bolingoli incident, have joined fellow Scottish club Aberdeen in the dog house after eight Aberdeen players were seen out in the city centre drinking at a pub. Two contracted COVID-19. Both of these incidents have led to postponement of matches as well as the drawing of ire from various politicians.

With Scottish football already on its “final warning” from the Scottish government, clubs and players will need to take special caution in order to continue the season. It seems that many players are not taking this situation with any type of seriousness. If the season is shut down again, where do they think their wages will come from?

With very little revenue coming in due to the lack of fans in the stadiums, television revenue is the lifeblood of the sport right now. Luckily for Celtic they had their season ticket holders renew for the season without any promise of ever being let back in the stadium this season. Therefore, the club needs to ensure it or its players are not the reason for another shutdown.

All of these issues are arising and fans are not even in the stands yet. Unless the right people start taking this seriously, this could very well be a short season.
