The SFA had just released a statement after their recent meeting with representatives from all clubs when things took a worse turn.
The SFA called a meeting with all 12 clubs regarding the policies and procedures for COVID-19 and how the league plans to remain safe during these trying times. While all clubs were and are aware of the protocols in place, the body decided that a reminder was needed after the eight Aberdeen players took to the town for a nice time of hitting the pubs.
Celtic had manager Neil Lennon and captain Scott Brown on the virtual meeting presumably to represent the two halves of the club: staff and players. The idea of the meeting was also to stress the importance that following the protocols is of the utmost importance.
If players and staff do not adhere to the rules then it could become much more than just one match being postponed as was the case of the Aberdeen match against St. Johnstone. Instead, if multiple outbreaks occur across the league and at the same time then much more drastic measures could be taken. SFA’s statement reads:
"During the call, the representatives of the 12 clubs were reminded not only of their responsibilities to adhere to the Return to Training and Return to Playing Protocols but to the wider Scottish Government’s public health guidelines laid down in the Route Map out of the COVID-19 Crisis.Aberdeen FC has also today provided to the JRG a comprehensive protocol document to highlight the stringent measures undertaken at Cormack Park and Pittodrie Stadium to ensure ongoing compliance with the relevant guidelines. Having reviewed the documentation we are confident it not only meets but exceeds the requirements of the protocols."
This meeting has become even more relevant as news has since surfaced of Celtic’s left-back Boli Bolingoli taking a secret trip to Spain then playing in the match against Kilmarnock on Sunday. His idiocy could potentially put his teammates, coaches and all opponents in jeopardy. None of that even mentions the potential for a postponement of cancellation of the season. It will be interesting to see whether another meeting takes place in light of these events.
This is likely the last we have seen of Bolingoli as the club could look to cut their losses with the player. He has already lost his place in the team to Greg Taylor and some reports suggest that the Hoops could already be looking for another left-back. Bolingoli appears to just be unwanted at this new juncture.
