Neil Lennon has provided exact details on Boli Bolingoli’s trip to Spain, which he described as a ‘total betrayal of trust’.
As the dust settles on the incident, Boli Bolingoli’s decision to break quarantine rules by taking a day’s trip to Spain starts to seem more and more ridiculous. The Belgian’s actions have been a cause of huge shame to Celtic and many fans are calling for him to get the sack immediately.
It is hard to understand exactly what was going through his head when he decided to hop on that flight to Spain. Did he think he could get away with it? And why did not he inform the club officials about the trip? Too many questions that we do not know the answer to. And to be frank, it would not even make a difference. There is no excuse for what Bolingoli did. Period.
But as the days pass, some light is being shed on the incident though. And this time it is Neil Lennon, who has provided exact details about the disastrous trip. As reported by BBC Sport, the Celtic manager said:
"“The players had a couple of days off, but it was made clear they weren’t to leave Glasgow.“Unbeknown to anyone, Boli Bolingoli took a flight to Spain on Monday and flew back on Tuesday. He decided to keep it to himself and put everyone at risk.“We were absolutely appalled, as the club has been at the forefront of good practice. We can’t watch players 24/7. We couldn’t do any more.”"
As expected, nobody at the club is amused. And it will take a miracle for Bolingoli to ever appear in a Celtic shirt again at this point:
"“The players are angry, disappointed and frustrated. The selfish actions of the individual is baffling.“I am livid, it was a total betrayal of trust.”"
As things stand, Celtic’s next two games have been postponed and they won’t be taking part in any football for the next week or so. There were also fears surrounding their position in the Champions League qualifiers as it was a genuine concern that they could be forced to forfeit the tie. Thankfully, that does not appear to be the case for the time being.
