The Celtic star broke quarantine laws to secretly go to Spain and then played the game against Kilmarnock without telling the club officials about the trip.

Boli Bolingoli has surely increased the likelihood of a move away from Celtic with today’s news of a hidden Spanish trip he made which flouted all the quarantine rules.

As the Sun reports, Bolingoli went off to Spain recently, didn’t mention it to Celtic, ignored the bubble isolation granted for football and completely overlooked the self-isolation rules applicable to Spain.

These actions signal stupidity or ignorance or a mix of both. Reportedly the Hoops bosses were furious and now Boli is under investigation. The rest of his teammates would surely also have some harsh words for him too. The fact that he has tested negatively twice since his return helps the situation and defuses any potential issues over his few minutes against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Bolingoli was in apologetic mode himself, but what else could he say. Other than cheerio which would be most Celtic followers likely suggestion now:

"“I have made a huge mistake. I want to apologise to my Manager, my team mates, the supporters, everyone at Celtic and so many others for letting them down so badly.“I am guilty of a major error of judgement. I know what I did was wrong and I know that I must now deal with the consequences.”"

It’s another self inflicted wound for Scottish football as it tries to convince Nicola Sturgeon and the Scottish government that it is capable of complying to the quarantine rules. That’s hard to believe based on this latest incident.

There may be cause for some misunderstanding by Leigh Griffiths and the birthday party scenario, but Bolingoli can’t have any excuse. An exit from the club during this window seems like a likely scenario after this incident.

Such careless players can put the game back on ice. In the space of a week we have seen the Aberdeen incident, the Griffiths incident and now this with Bolingoli, which to be very honest is probably the most outrageous of the lot.
