After having positive COVID-19 tests, Aberdeen’s match with St. Johnstone has been cancelled just days before their match with Celtic.

Aberdeen’s Scottish Premiership League match against St. Johnstone on Saturday has been called off after two Aberdeen players tested positive for COVID-19. According to The BBC, six more players are currently in self-isolation.

Multiple players from the Dons were seen out and about in the city-centre a few days ago despite an ongoing outbreak in the area. Now, the match which was set to take place in Perth, has to be cancelled and the league will be forced to deal with its first COVID-19 issue of the season.

Of course the first thing that comes to many fans’ mind is “what’s the punishment?” Well, the guidelines have been posted online by the league but no punishments have been listed. The lends well to the classic play of figuring it out as the league goes along.

However, this current outbreak on The Dons could have far reaching consequences. It shows just how fragile this season will be and we don’t even have fans in the stands yet. Multiple outbreaks on various clubs at the same time could spell disaster.

While two positive cases won’t derail the entire system, considering the match can be easily made up, it does show that it is distinctly the players’ responsibility to have some personal accountability in all of this.

For Celtic fans this is incredibly infuriating. The club was supposed to play Aberdeen in about a week’s time and now that is in question. Furthermore, the Hoops have taken extraordinary precautions in order to keep players and staff healthy. These actions do not come cheaply. It is beyond frustrating to see other players from other clubs out in pubs days before taking the pitch with other players.

It is beyond frustrating. It is disgraceful.
