Celtic suffer major blow in transfer chase for Takefusa Kubo
By Kade Kistner
Celtic have been linked to Real Madrid’s Takefusa Kubo since last season and his club’s latest decision make a deal highly unlikely.
Celtic have been linked with numerous players this transfer window. Some of those connections actually date back to last season, which is the case with the current player in discussion. Real Madrid’s Takefusa Kubo is the player in question.
The right-winger is a Japanese-national who has made several appearances for Japan as well as Spanish-side Mallorca last season when he was on loan. Those appearances make him an attractive option to many European clubs not just Celtic.
However, any move for Kubo will have to wait for a future time, as Real Madrid have plans for their right-winger this season and it does not have him leaving Spain much less La Liga. According to ESPN, Real Madrid want Kubo to go to either Real Sociedad or Sevilla, citing their good relationship with each club.
As 67 Hail Hail points out, bringing in Kubo, a right-winger, would mean that he would directly compete with James Forrest. Kubo has the talent to become an impact player, but would he see the playing time he needs?
Instead, Celtic could bring in a player like Hibernian’s Martin Boyle for a substantially less fee to help provide an insurance policy or possibly even an impact player. Kubo would represent an incredible boost of quality talent to the squad but it would also signal a distinct change in philosophy for the club.
How disappointed are you that Kubo will remain in Spain?
