Celtic skipper Neil Lennon has now confirmed the club’s interest in adding another striker before the upcoming campaign for a tenth-straight title.

With moves already completed for winger Mo Elyounoussi on a renewed loan from Southampton, and keeper Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens, it’s clear Celtic intends to fully invest in defending their title and making a push in European play.

One of the rumored targets thus far to help aid Edouard up front is 24-year-old English striker Ivan Toney of Peterborough United. Toney had an excellent 2020 campaign, netting himself 24 goals in 32 matches for the 7th placed Posh in England’s third-tier.

Those 24 goals accounted for 35% of the club’s total goals on the season, a remarkable feat for the speedy young striker, who shows exceptional movement off the ball, and an absolute knack for creating chances.

Celtic have reportedly bid £5 million already for Toney and had it rejected, but there’s hope a move can still be completed.

The other rumored target is Albian Ajeti, a 23-year-old Swiss striker for West Ham United in the English top-tier. With FC Basel in 2017 and 2018, he was able to score 29 times in 58 appearances but was unable to break into regular playtime for the Hammers, with 0 goals in nine appearances this season.

Ajeti has shown much promise, with a keen ability to make good runs and a willingness to play into the box for chances. With rumors that he may be the subject of a loan move to Glasgow, he could develop well with the Hoops next season under Lennon if so. Unfortunately, the loan has seemed to stall out as he seems to be weighing loan options to other sides.

Hoops fans can check out Lennon’s interview below regarding Barkas and the pursuit of a striker:

Regardless of who the club signs, its evident that Lennon is set on signing some scoring assistance, and either player looks to be a good option if a deal can be made.
