New details emerge regarding Celtic’s Vasilios Barkas move
By Kade Kistner
Celtic have been looking for a new goalkeeper and Vasilios Barkas seems to be the man, but now there is a new twist in this saga for the keeper.
We know how this goes, Celtic is looking for a new player to add to the squad for the season and some factor is always standing in the way. That seems to be the case with Vasilios Barkas the AEK Athens goalkeeper who it seems will be in Glasgow any day.
Despite the Hoops reportedly making not one, but two bids for Barkas, the move for the keeper is starting to make more sense as we get new information starting to roll in. Not only is AEK trying to extract as much as they possibly can from the Scottish Champions, but they are trying to make up some lost ground.
When Barkas moved to AEK Athens from Atromitis he came with a sell-on clause from his original club. The reported 15% sell-on clause is the hang up for AEK Athens as they are trying, or seemingly trying to pass that fee on to Celtic during this transfer process.
So, how should the Hoops proceed? Well, first and foremost then need to get the best deal for their pound. While many supporters claim Peter Lawwell pinches pences, if the Hoops are taken advantage of here then it shows that it is possible for other clubs to do the same in the future. And a deal does seem very close so there is no need to panic.
However, the 10-in-a-row cannot be taken lightly and a slight overpay for the keeper position may need to be made in order to secure it. In any case, the Hoops need to figure out the position and settle on a transfer fee and soon. As much as we love him, Scott Bain is not the answer in between the sticks this season.
