Celtic fans can celebrate as it looks like that it is only a matter of time before the club complete their first signing of the summer transfer window.

You never know what you are going to get from Celtic in the transfer market. A lot of times they are able to capture world-beaters like Virgil van Dijk and Moussa Dembele on the cheap. On other occasions they’ll just go and buy players who make you question whether even you are good enough to pull on the Hoops one day.

One thing the club are not known for though is going out and quickly getting a deal done. More often than not there will be some sort of penny pinching and it has resulted in them losing out on a number of stars in the recent past. And it has also caused a lot of frustrations for the Celtic fans.

This time though it looks like they have not messed around at all and agreed a transfer fee with AEK Athens for Vasilios Barkas early in the transfer window. Celtic know that they cannot start the new campaign with Bain between the sticks which has surely forced their hand a bit here. The fee is reported to be €5 million with a 10% sell on clause on top of it.

And as reported by Sportime, Barkas is going to travel to Scotland ‘immediately’ to undergo the medical with Celtic ahead of announcing the move:

"He is expected to leave for Scotland immediately, in order to go through the established medical procedures and then his transfer will be formally announced."

If the reports are indeed true then it is actually a breath of fresh air to see the club get the best man in quickly for a change. While Barkas was the best option available, there were actually genuine fears that the club would go for a cheaper alternative in the form of Joe Hart or David Marshall. Thankfully though, they’ve gone out and done the sensible thing by bringing in the Greek international.
