It looks like Neil Lennon has had a change of heart over the last week or so judging by his latest statement regarding the Celtic star.

Things can change very quickly in football. Neil Lennon’s recent comments are just proof of that. After news broke out earlier that Leigh Griffiths had returned unfit to training following the lockdown, he was left out of the Celtic squad travelling to France for the pre-season tournament.

Neil Lennon did seem pretty angry with the striker and even publicly slated him for his lack of fitness. As a result, questions were raised regarding his future at the club and whether the club will be looking to bring in another striker during the transfer window.

Just a week though and things already seem to be a lot better between Lennon and Griffiths. It looks like the Scot has improved significantly while the squad were away in France and it is safe to say that the manager is delighted with the progress.

As reported by the BBC, Lennon said:

"“I gave him a bit of criticism while I was away.“He’s got himself in great condition. He needs a little bit of time in terms of his football. He will get some game time tomorrow [against friendly opponents Hibernian].“It’s a great boost. It’s the minimum requirement. He’s got himself to a really good level, so it’s important he maintains that because he will be an asset for us.”"

Griffiths has fought with adversity throughout his career. It was just last season that it looked like his time at Parkhead had run out with the big money arrival of Patryk Klimala. Instead, he relegated the Pole to the bench as he had an incredible run of form following the winter break and nailed down a spot in the first-team once again after years.

Let’s hope that this time it will be no different and Griffiths will come out of this stronger. We all know at the top of his game he is an absolute asset to the club.
