A highly sought after goal scorer by many clubs, including Celtic, has apparently made his choice on where to play next.

Celtic has been connected to multiple players this summer as the 10-in-a-row season approaches. However, none of these connections have come to fruition as actual signings. That appears to be the case as well for Peterborough striker Ivan Toney.

Toney scored 26 goals last season in League One prior to the COVID-19 shutdown of football across the globe. That was enough to raise some eyebrows and turn heads for many clubs in Europe. One of those clubs was Celtic who was very much interested in making a play for the striker.

Instead, it appears Toney will be making his Peterborough exit and heading to an undisclosed club who are reportedly in talks with the player according to The Daily Record. Toney could have been an excellent and quality addition to the club, but alas we will have to wait an see who the Hoops have next on their list.

Speaking with the Daily Record, Peterborough chairman Barry Fry said he let Celtic know that they were no longer. A respectable move:

"“We have given a club permission to speak to Ivan because they met our valuation.“It’s not Celtic but, out of courtesy, I let Celtic know what had happened.“They asked to be kept informed and we informed them. I haven’t heard from them since then.”"

According to the same report, Peterborough wanted £15 million for Toney but due to COVID the asking price likely fell. That would be a large sum of money for the Hoops to put out even if the price was cut by a third.

In any case, many fans and supporters believe the club should heavily focus on a goalkeeper considering that is the most immediate need. Talk of adding an additional striker, especially when two capable ones sit on the roster and one up and coming one is just behind, seems odd.
