Celtic have just been quoted a price for one of Newcastle’s stars that could have arrived to help bolster the club ahead of the season.
Celtic have a desperate need to add players to the club ahead of the season, but not much has been done on that end. Instead the club has sold players and struck out on trying to add a few. Perhaps goalkeeper is the biggest issue of need.
Enter Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow. After missing out on Fraser Forster due to his want of attempting to make the Southampton first team and Joe Hart being not as attractive an option the Hoops have looked elsewhere. Darlow is 29-years old, has English Premier League experience, and could be a good fit for Celtic.
However, Newcastle, who is going through a buyout, has quoted the Hoops £5 million for the keeper according to The Sun. In the same article it also claims that Hoops manager Neil Lennon will not be shelling out that type of fee for Darlow.
Of course the Newcastle buyout has left any moves, in or out of the club, unlikely. The new owners are unsure whether to accept offers for players due to the EPL not making a decision on moving forward with the buyout according to The Athletic (subscription required). Regardless if Lennon wished to pay the fee, it remains unclear if a deal would actually go through.
The Hoops need a new keeper, that much is clear after Bain’s preseason performance in France when the club took on Nice, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain. With the start of the season just 10 days away something will need to give and the Hoops will need to add players. Left-back and keeper will be the biggest priority.
Just one question remains for the club: who and for how much?
