It looks like the Rangers find themselves in trouble already and the season has not even started.

Rangers have a mountain to climb in the upcoming season if they want to come anywhere near Celtic in the league. To be very honest, last season was their best one in years and even then they found themselves 13 points behind The Hoops when the season was forced into suspension as a result of the global pandemic.

Now obviously a number of their fans like to pretend that they could have turned things around if the last 8 games had been played. But in reality, judging by their form following the winter break, there was a better chance of them dropping to third than catching up with the runaway leaders.

The new season is around the corner though and as a result, the usual noise about this being their season surrounds Ibrox. But even their optimistic fans would be worried following Ryan Kent being sent off in their friendly tie against Lyon away in France. Most people would be wondering though, why is that a cause for concern?

Not many would remember that Jozo Simunovic picked up a red card in a pre-season friendly against St Gallen last season. The SFA took the incredible decision to suspend him for the first two games of the season as a result of it. Now, that is without doubt a bizarre decision but one that Celtic fans will remind the SFA of so that they can deal the same treatment to Kent. That is only fair.

Rangers fans on the other hand would claim that an offence in a friendly tie should not affect the player when the season starts although we do not recall any of them raising those concerns last time around. Now let’s see if the SFA show some consistency or if they decide to favour the Rangers. At the end of the day, they know they’ll need all the help they can get.

Update: The French FA have not reported the incident to the SFA and as a result they won’t be taking any action against Kent.
