‘Nonsense’ – Angry Neil Lennon attacks Celtic star in public
The Celtic boss clearly was not happy with one of his stars after the recent turn of events and decided to blast him in public.
Celtic find themselves in a sticky situation already and the season has not even started. And this is the worst time for these issues to crop up since they have a historical tenth straight Scottish league title to play for in the upcoming season.
It is hard to keep Leigh Griffiths out of controversy for any significant length of time though and Celtic fans have learnt it the hard way over the years. And his recent controversy could spell danger for his future at the club as he arrived so unfit to training that he had to be left out of the squad travelling to France for the pre-season tournament.
On the top of his game, he is one of the best players in the country. Unfortunately though, his multiple controversies make it hard to stay by his side for even his biggest fans. And his latest debacle seems to have angered even Neil Lennon.
As reported by the Daily Record, Neil Lennon did not have too many kind words for his striker or his habits:
"“I’m not happy. I think that’s fairly obvious by the fact that we’ve left him behind.“He’s come back out of condition and overweight. Any physical work we asked him to do he was coming out of saying he was injured. That’s going to be the case because he’s out of condition.“It would have been absolutely pointless bringing him with us. We had an extensive week in Loughborough and he wouldn’t have been fit to play the games here.“The ball is firmly in his court in terms of getting in the right condition.“He needs to stop all the social media nonsense with all these slogans he puts out there.“The boys here are all top professionals and I have a great staff who are all professional as well. They deserve better and he should know better.“He needs to get his head down and get fit because that’s what we pay him for.”"
Thankfully, Griffiths is no stranger about coming back from bad positions though. At the start of the year, it had looked like his Celtic career was over before he made a strong comeback after the winter break. It’s almost as if he creates adversity for himself on purpose. At the end of the day, an in-form Griffiths is an asset to any club.
But one has to wonder how many strikes he has left before the club decide to cut ties with him. He certainly does not have many more mistakes to make that will go unseen as it looks like Neil Lennon’s patience is slowly running out.
