Celtic receive massive Kristoffer Ajer transfer boost
By Kade Kistner
After multiple rumours have linked centreback Kristoffer Ajer to AC Milan, there is updated news that could make some Celtic fans incredibly happy.
Rumours of Celtic centreback Kristoffer Ajer’s possible departure from the club began last season when his agent (now fired) claimed the Norwegian international would be leaving during this summer. We have seen reports that Italian-side AC Milan had made a bid that was ultimately rejected, and then were prepared to offer two defenders plus cash for Ajer.
However, with the departures of so many players for the Hoops already the thought of losing a know quantity in Ajer was a double edged sword. For many fans and supporters the Norwegian is what he is and is a middle of the road type defender. Those same fans seem fine with shipping him off for whatever exorbitant transfer fee some club is willing to come pay.
On the other hand, many supporters see Ajer as a quality defender who has his flaws but has room to improve. Couple that with the fact that selling Ajer would mean investing a large chunk of that fee into another defender who may or may not pan out. The decision is truly a tough one with 10-in-a-row on the line.
However, for those in the camp that the centreback should stay there is some good news that has come out of AC Milan. The Italina-side have exercised their first option purchase on centreback Simon Kjær according to AC Milan’s official website.
While some see that as an obstacle to signing Ajer, or even taking AC Milan totally out of the running, that is simply untrue. AC Milan seemed determined to grab the Norwegian, and the recent purchase doesn’t preclude them from going after one of their first choices. Granted, it does make the need less and more money being pumped into the centreback position begins to look unlikely.
Either way, it puts AC Milan in stronger position to negotiate financially, but it may just cause Celtic to want to hold on to their asset that much more.
