One Celtic player’s former manager has blasted the youngster for choosing to join the Hoops as he claims it has just “wasted” his time.

A lot of young players dream of playing for Celtic and walking through the gates of Paradise and onto the pitch surrounded by some of the best atmosphere in Europe. That was seemingly the case with  former-Hoops player Daniel Arzani.

After playing just 26 minutes in two seasons at Parkhead, the Australian international never could stick with the Hoops due to injury after injury, one of which he was stretchered off the pitch. Now, Arzani’s former manager John van ‘t Schip, formerly of Melbourne City, has come out saying that Arzani wasted his time going to Scotland to play.

That sentiment isn’t hard to understand, but to be fair Arzani most likely would have been given a chance. But considering he has had major injuries throughout the entirety of his Celtic stint he was limited and was never able to find time on the pitch.

These types of external factors are hard to predict and while it can cause frustration for invested parties not much can be done to avoid those scenarios. Here is what John van ‘t Schip had to say in full in regards to his former player choosing the Scottish Champions via the Daily Record:

"“I don’t think it was a very good move for him going to Celtic.“The reason I say that is because of the standard of football in Scotland.“He should have come to the Netherlands. I tipped off Ajax about him, but they already had young players in his position.“And I tried to sign him when I was PEC Zwolle manager, but he chose to go to Celtic.“He is potentially a very, very good player, but he barely played at all in Scotland.“Utrecht needs to give him time because he hasn’t played properly for a very long time.”"

van ‘t Schip’s comments seem out of place. Again, we understand the sentiment and frustration when your former player swings and misses on what should have been a golden opportunity. It could have happened even if he went to Ajax.
