Jim White has made a ridiculous claim about what it means to be a football fan but perhaps it is understandable since he is a Rangers supporter.

Shock, horror and amazement as Jim White has made questionable claims again. He’s been arguing on a basic principle of life but from the view of a new club Rangers man.

This is really basic, an unwritten and unbreakable rule every fan should be aware of and adhere to. With only very limited exceptions it applies to every club and many sports.

On Talksport Radio this week Jim White got into debate with co host Natalie Sawyer and made the point that in his view it’s ok to change the club you support. Now doesn’t that leave an odd taste in your mouth? A strange feeling as you try to comprehend just how that could ever be possible? He’s been famous for his Sky transfer window hosting, but this is surely a transfer too far.

Part of White’s argument was that it’s just blind loyalty otherwise. He talks of how it’s acceptable to change partners, husbands or wives so therefore it’s ok to change the club you support. It brings to mind that famous Bill Shankly quote:

"“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don’t like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.”"

Jim, sorry no, it doesn’t happen like that. It was maybe supposed to be another attention grabbing Talksport moment but realistically you’ve just looked daft.

There is perhaps an excuse for him though. He’s well known as a Rangers man. But sadly the club that he followed has had to change. When they went into liquidation in 2012 and had to start up as a new club then he would have to swap his support from old to new. But that’s not what he means really as like many light blues fans, it’s almost impossible to bring himself to admit that happened.

For Celtic fans, it’s an obvious could never happen thought.

Allegiances aren’t switched, we keep the faith.
