Referee Bobby Madden has finally made a shocking admission about his worst performance as a referee. Surprise, it was a match that included Celtic.

Referees have a tough job no matter how one slices it. In Scotland and especially during Celtic matches, referees are heavily scrutinized for the way they handle business on the pitch. But, that’s just it: business.

When a referee is good they barely impact the outcome of the match, exactly the way it should be. But, when a referee interjects their will or has a poor performance than the match can be altered which usually  has horrific results.

Those results can cost club’s points, which in the end can affect finances, player’s futures, you get the point. This may seem a bit dramatic, but it is the truth. Unfortunately, we as fans have seen our fair share of poor performances by Bobby Madden.

The usually infuriating official has long been rumoured to support Rangers and just about anything else you can think of that would go against the grain of the Hoops. These rumours are given credence because unlike nearly every league in Europe, referees are not required to disclose favourite clubs.

Now, Bobby Madden has revealed his worst performance as a referee while speaking on Open Goal:

"“The last time that I was in League One was in 2013 after a shocker of a performance I went to Arbroath and Albion Rovers.“I had a shocker at St Mirren against Celtic, my worst game ever. But I turned up and I remember one of the Rovers coaches saying ‘Bobby, it’s not often that you are down here’. I said ‘Did you not see what happened last week’ he said ‘No’ I said ‘I had a shocker’“He said ‘Of course I saw it’ and the whole dressing room is up laughing. I thought that I had got away with it, somebody in Scotland hadn’t seen it.”"

Not exactly a bombshell from Madden considering we were hoping he would out himself as a Rangers supporter. Still, it is a rare sight to see referees publicly admitting fault.

Hopefully we will not be on the wrong end of his officiating in the future.
