Celtic source hints at new Odsonne Edouard contract

Could there be imminent news of a contract extension from Parkhead? A commitment to Celtic’s ten-in-a-row season from Odsonne Edouard?

Right, let’s be clear, this is based entirely on online rumours but with a club source now mentioned.  Usually there is only a very occasional success rate and the majority of such rumours crash and burn in failure. But what if this was one of those that turned out to be accurate?

We’ve seen the glorious deal announced with Adidas now in place. And the news of the other excellent deal with JD Sports as Celtic’s official retail partner. Which fans are all delighted with. Unlike over at Ibrox where there still seem a number of not very sporting but very direct views around.

That left many fans enthusing over the new Adidas outfits which appeared on the video and keen to spend their money with a huge rush to buy when the all the new items became available.

It also raised some questions, Celtic fans often talk about the old rumours of ‘Nike Friday’ or other days of the week.

Those were where Celtic might bring a few announcements or launches together either on one day or close together.  Ah! Those were fun to speculate over. Wouldn’t it be great to also speculate over whether we might see the club do that again soon to follow on Adidas and JD Sports?

We saw Elyounoussi sign wearing a New Balance kit and some wondered why that wasn’t maybe announced next day in Adidas stripes. Some wondered if there was a plan to space out some news and make it an Adidas week or more.

We’ve seen apparent interest from Leeds United in Edouard. That’s no surprise, any EPL side looking for a striker could claim an interest in him. But would he be looking at Leeds as a step up? He’d get plenty of exposure, experience and development leading the Celtic line. From reports it seems the Parkhead board have decided to slap a £40m+ price tag on the player, which should help put a few off at least.

Then a more exciting prospect in news today. A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club are making progress into tying Edouard to a bumper new deal:

"An agreement is not yet in place with the centre-forward and his camp but constructive discussions have taken place and there is a growing confidence in the Parkhead boardroom that a deal can be done."

Based on all the above and other hunches, plus a few who say they are in the know, the rumours online continue to build slowly. They speculate on whether we might soon see Edouard stride forward, in a new Adidas top, confirming a new contract which sees him in place for 10IAR. And possibly even taking in the highly prized and symbolic No7 on his back. Perhaps that’s in line ahead of a return to his France homeland for glamour games against PSG and a Lyon tournament.

What if that were true? Could it be so? Odds on to happen or maybe not? As said above, most rumours fail to come true, but it does no harm to wonder and one day, another will hit the mark. What a time we would have if it was this one.
