Celtic need to start adding players ahead of the 10IAR campaign. Now, one of their rumoured top transfer targets is confirmed to be available.
Celtic presumably have a list of players that they wish to pursue during this transfer window to strengthen the squad ahead of the 10-in-a-row campaign. Unfortunately, we as supporters are not privy to said list. We do know a few things though. The first is that the club wants goalkeeper Fraser Forster back. How reasonable that want is, is for another day.
Secondly, we know Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney is on that list. We have talked about Celtic’s interest in the striker on this site before, and the Scottish Sun reported that both Celtic and Rangers were scouting the Peterborough man all the way back in June.
Now, according to the Daily Mail via HITC, the Peterborough United director Barry Fry has made it clear his man is available, for the right price of course. Back in January the price tag for Toney was £15 million, of course that was a the moment in time when directors have set their asking prices astronomically high in the press in order to obtain the true value of the player through negotiations.
Oh, and that was also before the novel coronavirus pandemic which such all of football down for nearly 100 days in Europe and remains so in Scotland. That £15 million price tag has surely fallen back to Earth as Peterborough remain committed to giving Toney his move. As always, Celtic AND Rangers have been connected to the striker. With rumours of Odsonne Edouard potentially leaving the club, Toney could be seen as a replacement.
One thing is certain, with all the turmoil at Ibrox, such as rumors suggesting Steven Gerrard is on his way out, they won’t be pursuing a big money deal for Toney. Would you want the Peterborough striker at Parkhead?
