Neil Lennon confirms news Celtic fans were afraid of
Neil Lennon’s admission is a massive blow to the club’s transfer plans and one that the fans would have been hoping to be false.
It was one of those transfers that looked like it was in the bag for Celtic. After spending several seasons rotting on the Southampton bench, the Hoops had offered Fraser Forster a way out of Premier League hell and made it a first-team star at Parkhead once again. And he repaid their faith by putting in an incredible performance in the Scottish League Cup final against the Rangers to lift the club’s 10th straight domestic trophy.
It looked like a match made in heaven and fans were certain that when the season-long loan came to an end, Forster would do everything in his power to make a return to Parkhead. The only hurdle in the path appeared to be agreeing a deal with Southampton who were expected to try and squeeze everything out of Celtic for the English keeper.
Now it appears that the club had actually managed to agree a deal with Southampton for Forster, but it was the player who was not as keen to be moving back for a 10IAR charge. Celtic fans would have been hoping that the news was just a creation of the media but now it has been confirmed by Neil Lennon himself.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Lennon told Sky Sports:
"“Well we are looking at other options.“There was a deal agreed between both the clubs and it’s gone quiet from the player’s side of things.“Like everything else, we would dearly love him back here.“But if that’s not the case then we’ll look elsewhere.”"
That should be the end of Celtic’s chances of pulling of a Forster deal then as it looks like he is more interested in fighting for a spot in a bottom-half Premier League side’s first-team than get a chance of being a part of 10IAR.
