It looks like the Celtic transfer target is interested in a move to Parkhead and might be available on the cheap, making it more likely.

Celtic have been left scrambling for a new goalkeeper after news broke out that Fraser Forster won’t be returning to Parkhead as he looks set to fight for the first-team spot at Southampton next season. That was contrary to what The Hoops would have hoped for as they were under the impression that the English keeper would be more than keen on a return after establishing himself as the number 1  for Neil Lennon’s side.

With Craig Gordon also leaving the club for Hearts in search of first-team football, Celtic are only left with Scott Bain as a goalkeeper in the first-team squad. And now they will be looking to bring in two new players to fill in the gaps.

Names like Vasilios Barkas, Joe Hart and David Marshall have been linked with the club. Earlier reports broke out that Celtic have been quoted a £5-million price for Barkas as they have already open talks for the Greek international. Fans are not so keen on Hart, as it looks like he has lost his confidence since leaving Manchester City. He is one of the best keepers of his generation though and at the right price, it might be worth the gamble to see if he can rediscover his form.

David Marshall is a option that came right out of the blue. The Scot came through the Celtic academy and made 50 appearances in his 5 seasons in the first-team but has since gone on to have a respectable career in the South playing for the likes of Norwich City, Cardiff City, Hull City and Wigan Athletic.

With Wigan Athletic going into administration and less then 12 months left on his contract, Celtic could easily swoop in and bring him back to Parkhead if they want. And according to Herald Scotland, Marshall is also keen on a Celtic move.

This is not the kind of move though that will excite fans as the club will be replacing Forster will a 35-year-old who has failed to break into the Celtic first-team once already. One can only hope that if this happens then it is the replacement for Craig Gordon and not our first-team keeper with 10IAR up for grabs next season.
