Celtic have currently opened talks with a highly-rated potential replacement for goalkeeper Fraser Forster for the upcoming campaign.

Celtic need a goalkeeper. It is quite simple as that. Fraser Forster’s status is unknown and as each day passes a deal to see him return to Parkhead grows slimmer. Craig Gordon, a capable keeper in his own right, and one who was already on the roster has left for Hearts.

This leaves the Hoops left out in the cold with no top-tier option to play in between the sticks. Clearly, the club prefers to have Forster return. Not only is he one of the best options available, but he is good for business seeing as how beloved he is by the fans. But, what if Southampton don’t want to move him, or he wants to stay down south?

In that case Celtic needs to move on and sign someone not named Forster who is also capable. This campaign coming up is not the time to experiment or hope for the best when it come to goalkeeper. But, the Hoops know this and that is why they aren’t waiting around.

According to the Daily Mail, Celtic have been in touch with AEK Athens in regards to signing Vasilios Barkas. The Greek international has been connected to the club for the majority of this transfer window. And according to the Daily Mail, AEK wants £5 million to make the transfer happen.

While that seems a tad expensive, Forster would like come at a higher price for a permanent move. Couple that with Barkas’s age and his relative experience and it isn’t quite such a bad deal for either party involved.

Barkas would provide a good, sound presence in between the sticks for the 10-in-a-row campaign. However, if he doesn’t work out there has been rumours of a potential move for Joe Hart. Stay tuned.
