Southampton manager provides hope for Forster to Celtic
By Kade Kistner
The Fraser Forster saga continues as the Southampton boss has provided a glimmer of hope that the Celtic fan favourite could see a return to Parkhead.
Celtic are heading into the 10-in-a-row season and stop me if you have already heard this, but the Hoops are without a solid plan at goalkeeper. Clearly Fraser Forster is not only the Hoops’ first choice, but also every Celtic fan’s first choice.
Forster was on loan last season and the way he played hearkened back to his early days with the club in which he set multiple records. Those efforts earned him a move to the English Premier League, but he quickly fell out of favour and returned to Parkhead last season.
Now, this transfer window is bound to give fans whiplash with all the new information and rumours coming out of both clubs. First, Forster seemed like a lock to return on another season-long loan. Then, Forster was rumoured to want to stay at Southampton in order to compete for first team minutes. Finally, the most recent rumour is that Forster would be amenable for a return to Paradise, but only on a permanent deal.
Wow, that is a lot to digest. How about we toss a new development in this saga? According to Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl a decision has yet to make a decision on Fraser as reported by SunSport:
"“We have not decided what we do next season with our plans in this direction.“Of our loan players, some did a very good job and it’s also clear that loan players don’t want to go again on loan.“Normally they want to go permanently somewhere and we will find the right solution for every player in the summer.“When the right moment is to discuss it, then we do it.”"
Celtic need a solid plan in place for goalkeeper and soon. The club cannot afford to sit around waiting on Southampton to decide what they plan on doing. Celtic has plenty of options going forward, it’s time to act.
