After news broke out that Fraser Forster will not be returning to Celtic, the club are in advanced talks to quickly sign up his replacement.

It was no secret that Celtic wanted to keep hold of Fraser Forster for next season when they have the chance to make history by capturing a tenth straight Scottish league title. Unfortunately for the club, the English keeper appears to have slammed the door on another return to Parkhead as he is ready to fight for a starting spot at Southampton after having a talk with the manager.

Forster returned to Celtic on a season-long loan last season after spending a couple of seasons rotting away on the Southampton bench and immediately became the number 1 between the sticks. And his impressive performances seem to have convinced his parent club to give him another run in the first-team, which he prefers over having a crack at 10-in-a-row according to reports in The Scottish Sun.

As a result, the Hoops will now be forced to turn their attention towards a replacement for Forster or go into the next season with Scott Bain as their starting goalkeeper. Both Joe Hart and David Marshall are being linked with the club but according to the Daily Record, Celtic have already held advanced talks with the former Manchester City number 1:

"‘David Marshall is now available following Wigan’s plunge into administration – but Celtic have already held advanced talks with Joe Hart.’"

Hart has not been in good form since leaving Manchester City. He has had disappointing stints at West Ham United and Burnley, and will be a free agent at the end of the season. But if Forster’s time at Celtic has proved anything, it is that a goalkeeper can spend a couple seasons on the bench and still get the job done when given the chance.

It will probably be easier to bring in David Marshall with Wigan Athletic going into administration but he is not exactly the player that Celtic fans will be hoping to see as their top keeper next season with 10IAR hanging in the balance.
