Celtic announce departure of another promising youngster
By Kade Kistner
Celtic have allowed another promising youngster to walk out the door after the player announced his departure on Twitter.
Celtic have been revamping their squad this offseason, as promised by manager Neil Lennon. However, it seems there have only been subtractions but no meaningful additions. Craig Gordon, Jozo Simunovic and Jonny Hayes have all seen their departures from the club.
Now, another youngster is joining Calvin Miller in seeing his exit from the club. The player in qiestion is 18-year old Mikey Sparkes. As Celts Are Here has pointed out, Sparkes has appeared in matches for Scotland and Wales in their U-17 squad. It is unclear what Sparkes’s next move will be, nor was it clear why he is seeing his exit from the club.
While Sparkes is unlikely to have made an impact in this upcoming season, Celtic make their money as a club largely from their robust youth academy and young players. That has been the club’s calling card for many years. Sparkes leaving is a distinct change in philosophy for the Hoops, especially considering his appearances for Scotland and Wales.
Celtic has had quite a bit invested in the bhoy as he was 12-years old when he signed for the Green and White. Hopefully this does not become a new trend for the Hoops whether they decided to release him, or if he did not re-sign on a new contract. We would like to wish all the best to Sparkes in all his future endeavours. Once a bhoy always a bhoy.
