Chris Sutton expects new Celtic signing to shine
By Kade Kistner
Celtic legend Chris Sutton is excited about the prospect of one of The Hoops new signings to play a large role in the upcoming campaign.
Chris Sutton is well respected for his thoughts and ideas with the Celtic supporters community. He is one of the few pundits that has a good head on his shoulders and it helps he is Green and White through and through.
Sutton is particularly excited about one Celtic prospect, who after being brought in last January, has not had a chance to truly prove himself. The player in question is striker Patryk Klimala. It seems he was brought in at an inopportune time, at least for the player. The Hoops returned from winter break in incredible form. Leigh Griffiths saw his resurgence and Odsonne Edouard looked unstoppable.
Yet, Klimala could potentially play a large role in this upcoming campaign that will need everyone to be on board with achieving the goal of 10-in-a-row. Furthermore, Celtic will not want to fail to qualify for the Champions League Group Stage once again. This type of pressure to succeed on domestic and European fronts means that the Hoops will need to dig keep into their talented pool of players to step up. That means Patryk Klimala may be relied upon.
Sutton, writing in his Daily Record column, believes that Klimala could play a integral role:
"“So much has happened over the past few months, it could have slipped the mind Celtic paid serious money for the Polish striker.“To see he’s come looking bulked up and hungry to make an impact is promising news – and it might save Neil Lennon dipping in to his transfer budget.“Klimala might not have cost a lot of money in English terms, but £3.5million is a more than decent outlay for Celtic in the context of Scottish football.“He started against Clyde and was I blown away by his performance? Not really.“You need to cut him some slack but if Lennon was liking what he was seeing in training he might have featured a bit more. It’s good to see he’s bulked up but as long as it’s not at the expense of the pace which his reputation is built on.”"
If you look on any social media platform, especially in the last month or so, many Celtic supporters are completely dismissing Klimala and think he should be sent out on loan, or chalk it up to a failure. In reality, the player hasn’t really been given a chance, and he wasn’t going to be given a lot of opportunities last season especially with the squad clicking the way it was after the winter break.
Klimala should be given every opportunity to succeed at this club. Who knows, he may just pan out yet.
