One highly coveted and sought after striker by Celtic and other major clubs has just made it crystal clear he will be looking for a move this summer.

Celtic has had numerous names connected to them in recent weeks. With the revamping of the squad underway there seems to be a new rumour or player linked to the club every single day. However, this one rumour in particular has some merit to it.

The player in question is Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney. The player has been connected to clubs such as West Brom, Celtic and yes, Rangers. Now, the player is reportedly pushing quite hard for a transfer from his current club and wants to play at a higher level.

According to Football Insider, West Brom and Rangers currently lead the way in the pursuit of the striker. However, one should never count Celtic out as they have the recruiting prowess and promise of hardware to help sway any opinions. Of course that would take manager Neil Lennon and chief executive Peter Lawwell actually wanting to bring the player in.

In the same Football Insider article it is claimed that MLS-side New York Red Bulls made an offer of £4 million for Toney that was rejected. According to FI, the club is looking for £15 million for the striker, but could accept something as low as £5 million.

Due to the crisis caused by the novel coronavirus many clubs are hurting financially, and for those larger and more stable clubs, deals could be had for talented players. Toney’s fit with the Hoops remains uncertain considering the stable of talented strikers in the form of Leigh Griffiths, Odsonne Edouard, and recent signing Patryk Klimala.

Signing Toney would represent a stark shift in philosophy for the upcoming season and it would cause one to wonder who would be making a move in order to accommodate Toney’s arrival. However, the player is available and wants to be moved. Celtic would be silly for not at least kicking the tires a bit.
