Chris Sutton does not appear to be happy with the club’s puzzling transfer decision just like many other Celtic fans.

The global pandemic has caused a hit dent in the finances of football club’s around the world. With no fans expected inside stadiums for the foreseeable future, no club will have anything in the name of matchday revenue for the next season or at least the majority of it if fans are actually let in in the second half of the season. Unfortunately, Celtic does not remain unaffected.

This has resulted in the club’s having to work their budgets really carefully as there are not funds lying around like other seasons, at least for clubs with the financial power of Celtic. As a result the club have let a number of players go already, who had no future at the club. And while everybody agreed with most of these decisions, letting go of Jonny Hayes proved to be controversial.

Hayes always gave his best in a Celtic shirt and had the ability to fill in in a number of positions on the pitch. He was a handy and experienced player to have around, and featured a number of times in Neil Lennon’s side even last season. Now it has been confirmed though that he will be returning to Aberdeen.

It was not only the Celtic fans who were confused by the club’s decision to let Hayes go but Chris Sutton as well, who has been a vocal supporter of The Hoops in the media. He tweeted out:

Yes, we understand that they the club need to cut costs in order to keep them financially stable. But with the 10IAR season coming up, you cannot help but question the wisdom of the decision to let a player of Hayes’ quality and versatility go.

Best of luck to Hayes at Aberdeen next season.
