One former-Rangers man and current BBC pundit won’t leave well enough alone when it comes to Celtic’s nine-in-a-row.
A former-Rangers man and current BBC pundit is just one of the latest in the Rangers camp to start whining about Celtic being awarded the league championship. It seemed almost inevitable didn’t it? How could anyone affiliated with Rangers ever remain quiet?
While we haven’t heard too much from Rangers PR or current managers and players about this, that has not stopped former players with platforms to voice their thoughts. That seems to be the case with Steven Thompson, the former Rangers striker some 15 years ago. Since his time in football has ended he has gone on to to be a media man with BBC and his opinions haven’t improved any.
Now Thompson claims that Celtic’s title is tainted and that the league wasn’t given enough time in order to assess the situation properly. He claims finances stood in the way of clubs thinking clearly at that is why Celtic was awarded the title. Typical.
"Here is what Thompson had to say on BBC’s Scotland podcast via VideoCelts:The clubs and the SPFL board were desperate to release funds to the clubs and that was the reason everybody voted for the league to be concluded. I felt there was not enough time and consideration given to trying to explore every possibility to finish the season.Hindsight is a great thing but looking back now, if the SPFL board were not in such a rush to get it done, I think we could have been back. The amount of games left, you could have squeezed the games in.We weren’t to know that James Anderson was going to come up with a big pot of money and a lot of things have happened. But in terms of fairness with Hearts being relegated and of course all Rangers fans think Celtic ‘s title is tainted, they wouldn’t have been any of these questions had we finished the season."
None of this comes as a surprise. Rangers and company have never been able to handle anything with grace. You only need to look around the current times in Scotland to see that. This is just one more example of a Rangers supporter throwing a tantrum because his club wasn’t given the chance to win the league being 13 points behind.
They should save their breath and use their time to focus on how to beat Celtic rather than whine and complain about losing to the Hoops.
