Moussa Dembele is still a Celtic fan favourite and hero as he rubs it in for both Brendan Rodgers and Rangers this week.

Hoops supporters were delighted to see Moussa Dembele’s twitter post about his time at Celtic and hear about rumours of a move to Leicester City being totally dismissed, with a dig at his old manager.

Let’s start with the rumoured Leicester move. Although they are a big force to be reckoned with in the English Premier League (EPL), they aren’t one of the biggest clubs. Even if they do secure European football for their next season, it still doesn’t feel like where Dembele would see a next step up to European stardom. Although rumours of a possible move to an EPL club are no surprise as a next step in Dembele’s career, a move to Leicester City would be. And that’s before some of the back story is considered.

We know there was a bust up between Moussa Dembele and Brendan Rodgers when Dembele left Celtic in a rush. The Frenchman’s later comments on social media portrayed a very broken relationship with his ex-manager. So when the rumour mill suggests a happy reconciliation is on the cards, you have to wonder.

The Daily Record explains how journalist Duncan Castles got an insight about Dembele’s views on such a move.

"“Let’s just say I asked Moussa Dembele’s close friend whether this was a possibility, were Leicester City trying to sign him and whether he’d be interested in going there.““The response that came back was ‘this rumour is absolute nonsense and rubbish’,”“A player that is top scorer at Lyon, the next stage in his career path, Dembele has had a very astute and long-term focus on where his career would go.”“He wants to get to the top of European football, he wants to get to the top of French football. We spoke before how Brighton wasn’t the right move and they don’t feel Leicester is the right transfer and makes no sense at all.”"

And then the killer point about potentially linking back up with his ex manager Rodgers

"“Dembele felt he was let down by Rodgers, particularly after he had forced the Celtic board to allow him to leave Celtic to go to Lyon.““Apparently Dembele has no interest in working for Rodgers again.”"

Well those points appear pretty clear. They fall short of ‘over my dead body’ but don’t leave any doubt that the club and the manager fall short for an acceptable move.

For Celtic fans still sore at the way Rodgers deserted the team but keen to secure a hefty selling on fee for the club, they will still be delighted at the snub. Everyone is keen to see Dembele progress, but we all want it to be a great move for him.

Why? Well he was a great player for Celtic in his relatively short time with the club. And he put Rangers to the sword a few times in as he calls it ‘Dembelitions’. But what the supporters love now is that he is still such a great advocate and follower of the club.

We saw him prominent in helping celebrate the nine-in-a-row title win. And this week he’s back on Twitter responding to an SPFL post celebrating his success at Celtic.

Have a look at the video for some great memories. And have a read of his tweet to see his pride and joy of his time at the club. That’s why he is still loved.
