Martin O’Neill advises Rangers on how to beat Celtic
By Kade Kistner
Former-Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has just laid out a blueprint on how Rangers could stop Celtic from achieving 10-in-a-row.
Martin O’Neill, a former-Celtic manager who took over for Kenny Dalglish in 2000, has just laid out a path for Rangers to win the League title. Now, his idea is in no way supporting the Ibrox club in doing so, but simply demonstrates what the club would have to do in order to take over the Hoops.
Spoiler alert: it’s not possible this offseason. O’Neill says that Rangers need to “strengthen and bring in additional depth” in order to catch up to the Hoops. Let’s be honest, this is nothing revolutionary, nor is it something that Rangers would even be able to accomplish.
However, O’Neill highlights just how large a disparity in quality is between the two clubs are. Celtic has the ability to not re-sign players like Jozo Simunovic and Jonny Hayes, players that could make the starting squad for Ibrox, in order to bring in better talent.
Speaking with the BBC, and transcribed by TBR Football, this is what the former-Celtic manager had to say:
"“Rangers have to get a better team, it is as simple as that.“To compete over the whole season with Celtic, they would need a stronger team. I’m not saying they need 15 new players or anything.“But they definitely need a wee bit more strength, and a wee bit more strength in depth.”"
We know this won’t happen any time soon. Plus, Alfredo Morelos is nowhere to be seen, Ibrox is in financial straits, and manager Steven Gerrard may want to make a move away from Ibrox. As long as Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell continue their current course then this club is in great hands to accomplish the 10IAR. What do you make of O’Neill’s comments?
