Steven Gerrard must have shaken off the Rangers media shackles as he made some devastating public admissions in an interview that they’ll be furious with.

Steven Gerrard recently sat down for an interview and while those are usually of no interest this one is sure to give Celtic fans a good laugh. It’s a decent and interesting interview with Fox Sports generally but with two or three stunning points. Gerrard talked about Liverpool FC, Jurgen Klopp, the Premier League title and his own disappointments at not winning the Premier League.

"“I have to live with my regrets if you like and I don’t think they will ever go away. I came close on three occasions.”"

No doubt the reminders of not winning the league as the Rangers manager in the last two years won’t have helped!

Before the interview highlights, let’s remember briefly the Rangers throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the SPFL in an attempt to say it was unfair to award Celtic the league title without playing out the season. Null and void was very much to the fore on their preferred options.

In the interview Gerrard is very clear that the Premier League title belongs to Liverpool, deservedly and unreservedly. When it was put to him in the interview that some people may talk of a question over the title and the famous asterisk beholden by many ex-Rangers men, he was adamant that wasn’t the case.

"“I don’t believe in null and void.“When you are three quarters into a season, I don’t think that’s fair on anyone.“Yes, in years to come people will look back and say it came in the year of the coronavirus. But who has been the best team over the course of the 38 games? Look at the points. I don’t think anyone can take anything away from these Liverpool players.”"

For weeks now reporters in Scotland seem to have avoided asking Gerrard the obvious question comparing Liverpool’s situation with that of Celtic. It would have put him in a very awkward position if they had as he just couldn’t have denied Liverpool being so far in front.

So how will the Rangers PR now react to reading Gerrard comments about Liverpool which completely contradict their approach in Scotland? Well as it’s a worldwide article from Fox News no one in the west of Glasgow will get much success in trying to get the interview withdrawn and deleted. That’s only really an in Scotland thing with suspicions of it being successful recently on a couple of Media articles. It doesn’t really work effectively elsewhere.

It’s odd though as you have to think he knew what he was saying and how it would be reported and played back in Scotland. He can’t not have known the implications surely? Maybe he’ll regret those words or maybe they were well planned.
