Chris Sutton is convinced that Celtic will be the favourites to make the big transfer if they managed to come up with the money.

Until now Celtic have only announced departures from the club as they continue to let go of those without a future at the club before bringing in new players for the upcoming season, when they’ll have the opportunity to challenge for 10IAR. And one name on the top of their transfer would surely be Fraser Forster.

The English keeper made a name for himself at Parkhead before moving to England with Southampton. But after a couple of fruitful seasons for the Premier League side, he lost his place in the team and had spent the last couple of seasons sitting on their bench. As a result, when he returned on loan to Celtic, there were question marks whether he could still get it done at the top level.

It is safe to say that he replied to the doubters with his performances last season and now there is no question that the club will be looking to sign him on a permanent basis. There is still the huge issue of agreeing a deal with his parent club, Southampton, who will try to squeeze every penny they can out of any potential buyer.

Rumours have also emerged that clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in the goalkeeper’s services. But Chris Sutton has no doubt that Celtic will be his preferred destination if they manage to agree a deal with Southampton.

As reported by the Daily Echo, Sutton told Daily Record:

"“Forster is wanted by clubs in England and there is talk of him being a target for a top-four outfit, but there’s no way he’d be replacing the guys between the sticks at those clubs.“He’d be a back-up keeper and, having wasted almost two years of his career on a bench at Southampton, does he really need to be doing that again at this stage of his life?“Forster is hardly going to tell his grandkids about the day he was wearing a trackie while getting a Champions League medal. Or tell them about the save me made against Stoke’s Under-23 side on a Tuesday night.“Big games and big pressure at Celtic brings out the best in him and he’ll sign if Celtic stump up the goods. I’m sure of it.”"

The biggest factor here will be Celtic reaching a deal with Southampton who are looking for a fee that could be as high as £10 million. Now there is no way that Celtic will be breaking their transfer record in order to sign the 32-year-old goalkeeper.
