Celtic are interested in sought after international star
Celtic will need to bring in some fresh talent during this summer transfer window. Could they be targeting an international star?
Multiple sources have accredited Celtic with an apparent interest in 24-year old Honduran forward Jorge Benguche. The Bhoys will most certainly be in the market for another central striker, due to the likely utilization of Neil Lennon’s 3-5-2 formation in the upcoming campaign due to its intense attacking potency. 2020/21 promises to be a landmark season for the Parkhead club as they eye a record-breaking tenth-straight title, which means that transfer-wise the Celts will be targeting competent acquisitions across the board; Benguche potentially being one that could have a considerable impact should they choose to swoop for the cultured hit-man.
He plies his trade for Honduran-side C.D Olimpia who compete in the Liga Nacional; viewed as a fan favourite, the international cap has demonstrated his quality over the course of his four-year spell at Los Leones.
So what would make him an attractive transfer proposition for the champions?
Viewed as the focal point of the Olimpia attack, the talent has struck 33 goals since his move in 2016. Lethal in the penalty box, the offensive player can score a variety of goals. Aerially skilled and having a cannon of a right foot, the Honduras cap could represent a different option for the Bhoys and could get on the end of crosses when the Celts need to penetrate the goalmouth more directly in tight game situations. He made his debut for Honduras last year and got himself on the score sheet in a comfortable 4-0 win for the home side with former title winner Emilio Izaguirre getting in on the act also.
Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Issouf Bayo both realistically face the prospect of departing the club on loan in order to get regular first team football, and the pacey striker could represent an intriguing option as a third-choice striker. Physically adept and able to bring others into play, occupying defenders wouldn’t be too much of a problem for the offensive star. Whilst also having a good turn of speed which would aid the Celts as utilisation of the rumoured target as an out ball could assist the Hoops in stretching the opposition’s defence.
With alleged interest from various clubs in Europe and overseas, Celtic better move swiftly if they want to secure the sought-after attacking option for the forthcoming season.
