Celtic set to announce another player’s Parkhead exit
Celtic are set to announce the departure of another player as they continue letting go of those without a future at the club.
Judging by the amount of players that are being let go by Celtic at this point of time, one can only hope that the club has big plans when to comes to recruitment in this transfer window. After all, the club is set to challenge for a historical tenth straight Scottish league title and the board will never be forgiven if they end up fumbling this opportunity.
The mass exodus began with the transfer of Eboue Kouassi to Genk. The midfielder had been brought in by Brendan Rodgers to be the long-term replacement of Scott Brown but by this point it was pretty clear that that was never going to happen. As a result, the club decided to cut its losses and let him go for half the transfer fee that they had originally paid for him.
Next out of the exit door was Calvin Miller and similar to Kouassi, he didn’t appear to have a future in Neil Lennon’s plans either. The next two departures were shocking though as the club decided to not renew the contracts of Jonny Hayes and Jozo Simounovic, both of whom have been involved in the first-team this season, especially Hayes.
Rumours are also swirling around that Jack Hendry could be sent out on loan once again this season. And now, the club have reportedly decided not to take up the 12-month option in Liam Burt’s contract to allow him to leave Parkhead for a second time, according to Daily Record.
Burt had been brought in last summer from the Rangers but was never going to make it into the team ahead of the likes of Ryan Christie, Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham. And with the global pandemic now affecting the finances of all the clubs, he is a luxury that Celtic cannot afford to have anymore. As a result, he looks like another one in a long list of players headed for the Parkhead exit this summer.
