Another Celtic player is very close to Parkhead exit
Another Celtic player seems to be closing in on a Parkhead exit as the club continue their rebuild in preparation for next season’s 10IAR challenge.
With a historical 10IAR up for grabs, Celtic fans will be hoping that the club manage to fill in the few holes that exist in the current squad and put out the best team possible next season. The early phase seems to be one of clearing out some of the players that the team doesn’t need before they start bringing in fresh blood.
It began with the move of Eboue Kouassi to Belgian side Genk. Then Calvin Miller was let go of. And then came the bombshell that the club decided not to renew the contracts of Jonny Hayes and Jozo Simunovic.
The departure of Simunovic was understandable since he had not been a part of the first-team setup for quite some time after struggling with injuries. Hayes on the other hand was a vital part of this team even last season and although not a regular starter, he could be trusted to play a number of roles when the needed him to.
As a result, letting him go was a decision that left a lot of fans scratching their heads. And now it looks like it is the turn of Jack Hendry to move on in order to make way for the players that the club will bring in this summer.
When Hendry arrived from Dundee, he came with a lot of promise. He had had a promising season in the Premiership and even went on to make three appearances for the Scottish nation team. But it was all downhill from there though as he failed to make a place for himself in the Celtic team and is very much surplus to requirements at this stage.
He was sent on loan to Melbourne City in January but suffered an injury even there, having to undergo surgery as a result. And now he is back training with Celtic but not for long if reports are to be belived.
According to the Daily Record, Belgian side KV Oostende are interested in taking him on loan for next season:
"KV Oostende are keen on a loan move for Celtic’s Jack Hendry. The Belgian top-flight side have expressed an interest in taking the Celtic defender for the new season.Hendry is in pre-season training with Celtic. The Scotland cap is being eased back in after a knee surgery suffered last season while on loan at Melbourne City."
This move makes sense for all parties involved. It gives Hendry the opportunity to get his career back on track. While it also opens up the door for Celtic to sell him at a high transfer fee in the future if he can impress with his performances in the Belgian league.
