Celtic FC’s 10 best seasons: Where do they rank?
8. 1997 – 1998
Trophies: Scottish Premier Division, Scottish League Cup, Scottish Cup semi-finalists
League Play: 1st Place by two points over Rangers.
In the final season before becoming the Scottish Premier League the Hoops showed much tenacity, winning their first League title in a decade, but, more importantly, ending crosstown rivals Rangers run of nine-straight title victories. In a tight race all season, the Bhoys clinched the league on the final day of play, completing a narrow two-point campaign over their rivals. Not just stopping at a League victory, they were able to snatch the League Cup from Rangers as well. In European play, the side competed well, making it through a tough first-round loss on away goals in a 2-2 aggregate to Liverpool.
7. 1906 – 1907
Trophies: Scottish Football League, Scottish Cup
League Play: 1st Place by seven points over Dundee with a +50 GD.
The 1907 season saw Celtic’s first double, as they clinched the League and Scottish Cup, the first of such feats in Scottish football. With only two losses in 34 matches, the side saw their third-straight League title and seventh overall at the time (they would go on to win six consecutive titles). Hoops star Jimmy Quinn netted a league-high 32 times, the second-most he’d scored for the club in a season.
