A new name has popped up in rumours surrounding a possible transfer target for both Celtic and Rangers.

It is that point in the year again when all the hope of a new transfer window is wide open and everyone has their own ideas and rumours. However this summer transfer window will be of particular interest for two reasons. The first is that the moves made in the next few months will help dictate how the 10-in-a-row season fares. Secondly, Celtic manager Neil Lennnon has publicly stated that the club will be revamped.

A lot of question marks remain with this club. Will Fraser Forster return? What about Mohamed Elyounoussi? Or how about Kristoffer Ajer, in which Lennon reportedly told his friends was on his way out? With the back line needing some work and reinforcements enter the new name connected with Celtic: Boubakar Kouyate.

Kouyate currently plays with French-side Troyes, and they could be looking to move the defender when the transfer window opens up. Troyes is reportedly seeking £4.5 million for the 23-year old, and the Hoops are keen on gaining his services. According to the Daily Record, the Hoops are in a prime position to add the young defender to the squad.

If Ajer leaves, Kouyate who is also a true centre-back, would represent almost a direct replacement for the Norwegian. During his time with Celtic Ajer has been hot and cold with his form as well as his reputation with the fans. It is possible Kouyate could help fill the void of Ajer’s absence.
