Celtic could be in for a major cash boost as one of their former stars is looking at a move into the English Premier League.
Celtic are always playing the shrewd financial chess match and that is exactly what keeps this club at the forefront of fiscal responsibility. It is why they are perfectly fine procuring some of the best talent in the world and selling it to larger clubs… as long as there is a “sell-on” clause attached.
That seems to be the case in this instance as striker Moussa Dembele is looking for a move away from Lyon to an English Premier League club such as Arsenal or Manchester United. The Hoops understood the striker’s value when they moved him, and as such ensured that they would continue to profit off of the young player even after his time at Lyon was over.
According to Give Me Sport, some value Dembele as much as £50 million, and due to the sell-on clause talked about above, Celtic could be in for a windfall of cash if the striker is moved from Lyon.
In a time of financial uncertainty, and the 10-in-a-row looming, cash will be needed to help reinforce areas of weakness. With Calvin Miller, Jozo Simunovic and Jonny Hayes already out on the street, a few more are expected to follow. Replacements, and quality ones will be needed to help replace lost talent. Any additional cash the club can bring in will further those endeavours.
Perhaps some of the money acquired from a potential Dembele move can be used for the wages of either Fraser Forster or Mohamed Elyounoussi. Both are rumoured to be of interest in remaining with the Hoops, with the former close to a new deal of some sort. It will be worth keeping an eye on as the summer draws close.
