3 Players Celtic could sign in the summer transfer window
By StevieMac
It’s the right time to strengthen the squad and replace some players who have moved on or might do so. We’ll take a look at three Celtic could be considering.
Celtic will be looking at players who can be an improvement on what we already have in our squad. But there may also be some gaps that aren’t yet fully obvious which will occur if players leave. Fraser Forster and Mohamed Elyounoussi being good examples, in that we ought to be identifying replacements in case we can’t extend their loans or sign either permanently.
We’ve looked at three who have played their last game for the club, seen Jozo Simunovic and Jonny Hayes leave and considered others who could breakthrough to the first team, here’s three new players that might be in consideration to strengthen the Celtic squad.
It is a yes, a no and a maybe!
Robin Knoche
Knoche is a 28-year old German centre-half playing at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. Critically his contract expires in June so he may be available at a lower cost than with an expensive fee. Talking in January he was reflecting that he may not renew his contract at Wolfsburg and it may be time to take up a fresh challenge.
He’s been with the club since signing for their youth team in 2005 and working his way up through the various ages and levels. His place in the starting lineup faded at the start of last season when a new coach arrived. But he returned to play from the start from late January onwards. He’s been benched again for most of the recent restart games behind closed doors. So he may have itchy feet for that new opportunity.
He brings Europa League and Champions league playing experience at Wolfsburg which is both an attraction and hopefully what Celtic can provide for him. By all accounts he is a tidy ball playing strong centre-half with a preference for finding that long ball to the forwards. One for Leigh Griffiths to play with perhaps!
He’s not got a great goal scoring record but that’s not an issue if he can bring strength, determination and experience to the Celtic defence.
He’s well worth a look and hopefully Celtic have been watching him already.
